The Faerie Guardian Creepy Hollow Book 1 eBook Rachel Morgan

This book was good, but it wasn't my favorite. It definitely had it's strong points that make it stand out among other fantasy novels -- the world the author has created is beautiful, unique, fascinating, and so well described. The action sequences are fast-paced and exciting. There are so many mysteries and paths the plot takes that could have been so easily muddled up, yet the author kept them very well organized and easy to understand and follow.

My problem was with the characters. The main character, Violet, has a good head on her shoulders and it's easy to sympathize with her regarding all she's been through. But she had moments where her decisions and mistakes were very unwise, and as a guardian in training I expected more from her. Her love interest, Nate, was cute and funny for the most part but had times where he seemed to take a dominating-male role, and I was disappointed when Violet went along with it rather than stand her ground. And frankly, I couldn't stand Ryn. I think the author was trying to balance him between annoying and likable, and there were times when he had some good wit and his nice side showed, but for me it was overwhelmed by his obnoxious, self-centered attitude.

Definitely glad I read this novel, as it was very entertaining and the wonderfully imaginative world sucked me right in. But I don't feel an urge to read the sequels.

The Faerie Guardian Creepy Hollow Book 1 eBook Rachel Morgan Reviews

Pre-reading Thoughts

I am so excited for this book! I've seen this book on for a while now and on a spur of a moment decision, I decided to contact the author to see if she was willing to send me her book to review! Turns out she is South African, which just makes me more excited to for this book. I have been in the best mood for books based on the Fae and wasn't really in the mood to start reading Throne of Glass. But I am so ready for this book!

Thank you so much Rachel for sending me a paperback copy of your book! Just a small little disclaimer for those reading this review. I have received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. No money on my behalf has been spent in acquiring this book. Please note that this does not affect my opinion in any way. All thoughts are my own.

Writing Thoughts

The writing in this book was really good. It felt as if Violet was the one who wrote the book instead of Rachel. The writing had the write amount of sass and humor that a teenager would have. I really enjoyed it. It was a lot of fun. The writing had a nice and fast pace with enough sarcastic and entertaining dialogue.

Plot Thoughts

The plot was amazing and addictive. I really just wanted to know how this book ended. I was unable to put this book down and when I did, I couldn't help but think what was going to happen. The plot was well thought through and had a really good pace. Everything that happened was unexpected but was so good. Violet's talents were constant and didn't seem like she was just saying that she was the best.

Character Thoughts

Violet was really spectacular. She was a well rounded character that dealt with a lot of mixing emotions that I went through. She was an accessible character and was really badass. Ryn was someone you wanted to hate because of the relationship he had with Violet but in the end, it just made him a lot more interesting. Their relationship seemed like something that old friends would have.

Final Thoughts

Overall, this book was downright addictive. The writing was good and Violet's voice was clear and obvious. The plot was well planned and completely unexpected. And the characters... the characters were just incredible. They felt like old friends and they funny and accessible. It was just an amazing experience reading this book and I cannot wait for the others! Thank you so much Rachel for sending me a copy of your book!

Yours in Reading,

Wow, let me begin by saying that I have NEVER given out a 5 star review. I have also never finished a series then immediately reread it. At first, I thought rereading it would make me change my mind about the 5 stars. However, the book was even better the second time! Everything made sense and I found myself laughing and crying all over again.

I'm a very critical reader but I'm rating this book purely on entertainment and emotion. I loved the protagonist, Violet, and I found myself wishing I was 17 again just so I could experience falling in love for the first time all over again.

I agree with some who don't believe Nate is very well developed, but since we were looking at him through Violet's eyes I found myself drawn to him as well. Tall, tanned, sweet, smart... He is what Violet wants and needs to stop her loneliness. One reviewer asked- Why would she put her guardian training at risk for this human boy? She wants someone to love her, that's why.

I won't spoil anything for new readers so let me tell you this- there are more to these books than romance and guardian assignments. Everything is so well thought out and all of the characters and dialogue connect through all three novels. The first page of this book ties into the last book. Its fascinating to find a lack of discrepancies in the series (when I have found discrepancies within solo novels). I have already suggested this book to friends and cannot wait to recommend it to my students this year!
